Description
Product Introduction

MAST DM140D MacConkey Agar (without salt) is a selective, differential dehydrated medium formulated for isolation and presumptive identification of enteric Gram‑negative bacteria. The reduced‑salt formulation minimises Proteus swarming while differentiating lactose fermenters (pink/red colonies) from non‑fermenters (colourless/white colonies). Supplied as a 500 g dehydrated powder for on‑site preparation.

Features
  • Selective and differential medium using purified bile salts to inhibit non‑enteric organisms.
  • Differential for lactose fermentation: fermenters produce pink/red colonies; non‑fermenters produce colourless/white colonies.
  • Reduced salt (no added NaCl) to minimise Proteus swarming and lower ionic strength for specific applications.
  • Supplied as a 500 g dehydrated powder for routine laboratory preparation.
  • Suitable for clinical, food, water and environmental microbiology workflows.
Intended Use / Applications

  • Isolation, differentiation and presumptive identification of enteric Gram‑negative bacteria from clinical, food, water and environmental specimens.
  • Urine culture workflows where suppression of Proteus swarming is desirable.
  • Routine detection and enumeration of coliforms in water testing.
  • Specialized protocols or research requiring a MacConkey formulation with reduced ionic strength.
