Description

Product Introduction
MAST DM160D Mannitol Salt Agar is a selective, differential dehydrated medium formulated for isolation, presumptive identification and enumeration of Staphylococcus species. The high salt concentration selects for halotolerant staphylococci while mannitol and phenol red indicator allow differentiation of mannitol‑fermenting strains by a yellow colour change. Supplied as a 500 g dehydrated powder for laboratory preparation.

Features

  • Selective high‑salt formulation that inhibits most non‑halotolerant bacteria and enriches for Staphylococcus spp.
  • Differential via mannitol fermentation: phenol red indicator turns yellow where fermentation occurs.
  • Suitable for presumptive detection and enumeration of pathogenic staphylococci in clinical, food and environmental samples.
  • Supplied as a 500 g dehydrated powder for on‑site preparation and batching.
  • Robust performance for primary plating, colony morphology assessment and preliminary screening prior to confirmatory testing.

Applications

  • Isolation, presumptive identification and enumeration of Staphylococcus spp., particularly coagulase‑positive, mannitol‑fermenting strains.
  • Screening of food, dairy and clinical specimens for pathogenic staphylococci.
  • Routine laboratory workflows for primary plating, colony selection and preliminary biochemical differentiation.
  • Environmental monitoring where selective recovery of staphylococci is required.
